hello, it would be really great if ffproject could bring some Kind of app for ios out, where you could easally log into ffproject and Play the gamebooks, maybe even a Feature to cash or download the gamebooks to Play offline if you don't have Internet. that would be awesome. |
I recognise that there's no facility to download gamebooks and play them offline, but if you do have an internet connection, surely you can already 'log in and play the gamebooks' ? If screen size is an issue you can always try http://www.ffproject.com/small. |

Right now it is currently the Eve of Christmas Eve for me, so just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I have been working on a short Gamebook myself over the last month, and am hoping to keep the momentum up and finish it in a timely manner. Hopefully it will be something worth sharing with everyone when it is completed. |

@ Everyone,
Just wondering if Hugo Myatt who played Tregard from Knightmare ever visits games conventions? |
Apparently he did visit this at least.

I hadn't thought of Knightmare for years, I remember as a kid being amazed by the graphics and CGI, there was nothing like that on TV back in those days. Caught some of the old episodes on youtube, very nostalgic. |

@ A.E. Johnston,
Aside from gamebooks, Knightmare also helped me get through difficult times, and very entertaining. I got a bit frustrated when watching some teams go to pieces and panic, issuing wrong instructions, etc. Much to be said for nostalgia.
At the risk of being a little naughty, one of my latest crushes for TV actresses is Claire Foy. She recently played the ill-fated Anne Boleyn on Wolf Hall (good series, that!) which really follows the story of Thomas Cromwell. I like women who have that certain spirit yet she's also quite cute in real life. She became pregnant in early 2015 and I'm really happy for her. Watching an interview on youtube, she mentioned uncertainty about voice-casting for videogames. Bless her, she wasn't quite up-to-date with modern games, mentioning Sonic the Hedgehog and Jet Set Willy (good lord, a memory from the 80's Spectrum for me!). I laughed and wanted to hug her for that warm little gem. Still, wonder if she could earn more fame whilst voice acting for games? |

Speaking of crushes, I just got rejected by a girl I've been having a crush on.
She said that I was among the most respectable of the (literally) hundreds of would-be suitors who have approached her over the years, but that I was too eccentric for her to live with. She offered to fly 1000 miles out to where I live for a personal chat if I was feeling lonely, but I have a feeling that she only offered to do so in order to soften the blow. I couldn't have accepted the offer in any case, given the importance of her work. |

@ bcyy,
Sorry to hear about your disappointment in romance. At least she was honest and obviously cared about you. As for me, I've given up on finding someone. I'm middle-aged and ideally I wanted to meet that special someone in my 20's or 30's, time for things to happen, take shape. It's like that song by Karen Carpenter 'Goodbye to Love'. Or 'World Without Love' by Peter and Gordon (written by John Lennon, a top-class songwriter). Or even 'The Disappointed' by XTC. But then, I guess I'm eccentric also. It would have nice to have had a wife and children, family home - but then, in today's climate, I can't see that happening. Never mind. |

Don't feel sorry for me - I'm not actually that devastated. She's been a very close friend of mine for quite some time, and as such has done everything she could to make things easy for me. It's most flattering, actually, if you think about it this way: an important physicist whose brief and accidental past disappearance from the grid triggered a global (wo)manhunt by interpol is now taking the time and pains to care for my feelings! :-)
In terms of prospects of having a family, I think I'm seeing my own future when I'm looking at you. I think I can relate to the feelings behind that "never mind" you wrote. Perhaps we should get together some time. I do tend to hold annual parties for all of my friends who are still single, but seeing as you're probably in the UK, the geographical location of those parties may be a little bit far away (like, 10 hours or more by plane). Still, I may travel to the UK some time in the unforeseeable future. Singles of the world, unite!
BTW, do you celebrate Singles' Day?
@Tammy
??? I thought you were one yourself?! At least, Escape Neuburg Keep gave me that impression. |

There's actually two documentaries regarding the gradual ruin and complete concealment of buildings worldwide. 'Aftermath: Population Zero', and 'Life After People'. You might be able to watch all of the former on Youtube, but I've struggled to find the latter. Aftermath is useful as it provides a progressive measure.
@ Tammy,
Are you sure you're not a hermaphrodite Troglodyte? Or a genome Gnome? Or a shelf Elf? ;)
In the meantime, I'm off for a 'hearty' drink of Earl Grey! |

Sorry to disrupt the teabreak, ---- though I'm a very bad Englishman myself and with the exception of Rose or Jasmin prefer propperly made fresh coffee, but I have a question.
Those gamebooks like Sharkbate's revenge and Isle of the cyclopse that have additional challenges. Once I've finished them and posted a comment I can't get back to the additional challenges page to see what else can be done, indeed I have just finished Isle of the cyclopse and copied the link, but when i try to go back to it I get an error message.
is there a way to see the additional challenges without having to complete the hole gamebook successfully first?
I've never usually thought an account system is needed for this site, indeed even when I want to save my position in a book I just bang the page in my favourites with Ie and go back to it as needed, however with these "additional challenges" showing up only when a book is complete and seemingly not accessible otherwise I am wondering if perhaps an account that kept track of what books you'd finished, let you see the "additional challenges" page and kept track of what challenges you'd done might actually be an idea. |
When you post a comment from the end of a game, a new tab is created and the original tab undisturbed (I have just checked this in both Firefox and IE). So you should be able to go back to that and carry on. If you don't trust that mechanism you can also save your position at the end of the game in favourites as you normally do. There's nothing special about the state of play when you are working through the additional challenges.
The additional challenges only start when you complete a gamebook - until that point, you already have the original challenge. What they involve isn't a secret, I've put most of them on the guestbook, but you can't jump straight to that position.
I'd always reflected on the idea of an account system, and pretty much decided against it as the benefits are minimal compared to the amount of effort involved and the extra hurdle to participation. Maybe a cookie-based mechanism to keep track of what you have completed is a more likely possibility (but I'm committing to nothing). |

Fare enough, I know what I need to do next time. As I said I was never really sure an account system was needed for this site anyway, it's just with the additional challenges and need to go through more times I did wonder.
Cookie based saving might be an idea, it's what choiceofgames use on their online versions (though sinse you can now buy their commercial games via credit card from their site as well as various systems they also now have an account system too), though could be a little unfortunate if you clear your history and wwoops!
I'll just remember not to delete my book save links from my favourites until I've checked the challenges in future. |
