Apologies this has nothing to do with FF, but this is now my sixth year as a barefooter. It is also the coldest it's been for me. And my bare feet are doing very well, thank you. It's amazing how resilient they become to the cold. Let's see how far I can push the boundaries, shove the threshold up higher. Toodlepip! |

@Robert
I have extremely sweaty feet, so I almost always go with footwear that allows good ventilation. A pair of woolly slippers, for instance, just wouldn't work for me, since they would become drenched in sweat in a matter of minutes, and I would have to squeeze the sweaty goo into a bathtub. The horror! Just how barefoot are you? Surely you're not going outdoors barefoot as well? |

@bcyy
Surely yes, sir! Although it's very cold at first, my feet soon begin to warm up - as long as I keep moving to pump blood around my body. I'm one of very few numbering the Barefoot Brigade in winter. Steadily becoming a true veteran. What, you think that's mad?! Try saying that to a barefooter….in SIBERIA! -40 degrees Celsius, perhaps lower. Impossible? Only for those who aren't acclimatized.
Oh the shock, oh the horror! Who is that strange barefoot man? Why does he go barefoot in late Autumn? Let me tell you a story.... I went to the local opticians today. Walked in, smiled, presented my appointment card. Now as you might know they also offer an auditory (hearing) check. Did I need one? No. How did I know that? Because, unknowingly to the two girls talking, I could pick up certain words such as, 'no shoes'. And the glancing over at me is a dead giveaway. Some people can pick up certain sound levels - and talking low or whispering doesn't always achieve intended inaudibility.
Anyway, guaranteed I'll be barefoot tomorrow when taking my spare pair of glasses in to be 're-lensed' (is that a word?). Well, unless I wake up dead, ha, ha! And I'll be dropping a hint or two.... |

It's not so much the cold that deters me from going outside barefoot as it is the danger of the nasty stuff that I could potentially step on. If I were to go outdoors barefoot, I could imagine I would have chewing gum and nails stuck to my feet at the end of the day, not to mention the occasional hookworm... Conserve your luck score. You need it for more important things. |
Robert Douglas Wed Dec 5 11:27:27 2018
|
You don't get hookworm in where I'm from. And my immune system has improved vastly. My Skill and Stamina (Initial) scores have increased by 2 points since going barefoot. Perhaps also an Endurance score? Even Notoriety or Fame score might be affected? |
bcyy Thu Dec 6 06:00:44 2018
|
@Robert, Well, there weren't tiger mosquitoes in the UK either, so you never know when hookworms will make their debut. I'm sure that taking off your shoes would result in a skill penalty, not an enhancement, otherwise the character would have done so before facing Razaak. |
Robert Douglas Thu Dec 6 11:24:04 2018

@bcyy, Razaak actually commended the hero for taking his/her shoes off before battle commenced. |

Sorry it's a bit late, but: Merry Xmas to all! Happy New Year for tomorrow 2019! Top of my head, can't remember what is celebrated throughout Titan at this time of the year... On a side-note, had succulent lamb with the traditional veg, including stuffing, followed by delicious is somewhat chilly ice cream of three flavours (vanilla, chocolate nut, strawberry), on Xmas Day. For New Year's Day it will be the traditional prawn cocktail (with a seafood sauce), followed by a silverside beef course with carrots, sprouts, roast potatoes. A bit (or much) later on look forward to wild forest strudel coated with custard. Cooking of these meals were/will be down to my own passable culinary abilities. |

@Robert: Sounds brilliant! I wish I had the culinary capabilities to whip up anything remotely close to "succulent lamb". |

To be honest I had mistimed the cooking of the meat; I had to take out then later oven reheat the veg and stuffing whilst waiting for the lamb. Nevertheless, well worth it in the end! For today (New Year), change of plan: carrots, broccoli, mash, with a few slices of beef. Bit simpler compared to Xmas Day. Oh yes, the starter and dessert will remain on the menu. |

William Morgan Sheppard has died - he played crossbow wielding Ranulf in Hawk the Slayer. Perhaps more well known for his sci-fi TV series roles such as Star Trek and Babylon 5, alongside various movie roles, including that of Patch Lovecroft in war flick The Sea Wolves and Major General Isaac Trimble in American Civil War epic Gods and Generals. But I first got to know of him from his portrayal of Ranulf. Recounting to the abbess of when Voltan's wrath befell his village is a fine example acting talent. Try and watch it if you can. Make note of his tone differentiating between deep remorse and anger, his expression, the tearful eye at a love savagely torn away. He leaves behind an acting son Mark Sheppard who I'm sure will carry on the acting tradition. RIP William Morgan Sheppard. |

Hi Everyone,
If you have not yet, I would highly recommend checking out "Bandersnatch" on Netflix, it is a standalone movie from the "Black Mirror" series. As you watch you are instructed to use your remote to select certain choices that appear onscreen, with each choice leading to a different scene so that in essence you choose your own adventure (sound familiar at all? :-D ). It was a lot of fun, and I will be trying again to see if I can view a different ending. |
