Any given Friday evening would be good. You live in Birmingham?
bcyy Wed Nov 2 00:42:59 2022
Right now, yes, I'm in Birmingham. Where shall we meet? I may need to plan a time accordingly.
Gavin Wed Nov 2 06:02:18 2022
Of course there are now rail strikes to complicate matters. Still do you have any preference on location.

Sorry, I've just been hit by a new round of crises. These university admins can't get anything right...
I would really prefer somewhere as close to Birmingham as possible - I really can't afford he time to plan a trip right now.
Would this be possible for you?
Gavin Sun Nov 6 10:15:49 2022
That's fine so long as transport is fully functional on that day
bcyy Sun Nov 6 21:46:02 2022
Thank you so much! I'll pay for your ticket!
How does meeting up on the 25th at Birmingham New Street Station sound? This is assuming, of course, that you still have to meet on a Friday evening. Do you have any preference regarding restaurants?
Gavin Mon Nov 7 22:50:41 2022

Sorry that repeated for some reason. I'm in Edinburgh on the 25th unfortunately. No need to pay for a ticket on any given day though :)
bcyy Mon Nov 7 23:04:48 2022
Hmm... How about we postpone again, since I really can't overcome this fresh wave of crises before the 25th? I will be stuck in the UK for far longer than I had planned, so the window just got a lot bigger.
In any case, have fun in Edinburgh!
Gavin Wed Nov 9 04:06:04 2022
Yes ok, thanks for the good wishes about Edinburgh :)
Yaztromo Wed Nov 23 21:38:22 2022
I'm OK... I moved not too far from Birmingham as well...
bcyy Sat Dec 3 15:52:15 2022
Great! Maybe we can have a gathering!
Gavin Sat Dec 3 18:41:53 2022
That would be great so long as the C word is not mentioned
Stuart Lloyd Sun Dec 25 07:40:30 2022
Happy Christmas everyone!
Tammy Mon Dec 26 04:22:09 2022
Happy new year coming up now :) any new year's resolutions for anyone? or no just the same ol' same ol' each year....
Merry Christmas, Stuart.

I'd like to float a topic for discussion:
This site should have a Patreon to allow those who enjoy reading and writing gamebooks here to support it.
While some content creators on Patreon have different tiers with exclusive content, I am imaginging instead a single "Support this Site" tier with a minimum of 1 gold coin (or other relavant currency).
Any funds would go to maintaining the site and incentivising its continued existence. This site would still function the same way, and writers (such as myself) would still be using this site as a free publishing platform with no expectation of return.
While the webmaster has expressed to me in the past that he maintains this site as a hobby and is motivated by interest in gamebooks, I think what I am proposing here is reasonable as it does not require any additional effort and is unlikely to end up funding the purchase of a private island.
Thoughts?
In principle I don't have an issue with this, but I'm not convinced it would accomplish anything. It's probably what I said before on the subject, but I haven't attempted to raise money, either by advertising or by soliciting donations, because I'm pretty sure it would only ever generate a small fraction of the costs, while potentially antagonising anyone who has contributed creatively on the understanding that the site is non-commercial. If necessary, I could probably save more by shopping around different hosting services, but there is no pressing need, and until there is I'll just continue to think of the costs as my donation to the internet, from which I get plenty of free entertainment.
Of course if I thought I could get a private island out of it I'd already have done it.

@Tammy - Merry Christmas.
My new year's resolution is to see more people in person. We've had 2 years of lockdowns and one of my family members died in 2022. Life's too short.
@Ulysses - I'm up for that. It can pay for hosting costs etc.
