Sadly, FFF coincides with the date of a conference in Italy I absolutely must attend, so I can't go.
Have fun!

Potters Field is set in alternate 1244 with a surviving Roman civilisation model mixed with feudalism, Christianity and pagan religions. Some operatives then need to investigate satanists trying to disrupt a pro democracy movement.

OK, back from the conference, how was FFF?
I now have Potters Field in the cart, will read ASAP.
Gavin Thu Sep 19 03:32:18 2024
FFF was ok hope you like potters field :)
Stuart Thu Sep 26 16:38:57 2024
@Gavin you were there? Damn, I missed you.

Does anyone know if the webmaster is still around?
I am still around.
Oberon Mon Nov 4 14:48:51 2024
I really enjoyed Escape from Firetop Mountain: it's like a full circle back to where it all began. I take this opportunity to salute the webmaster and the various authors who have given us so many wonderful adventures.
Gabe Fandango Wed Nov 27 07:06:33 2024
^Hey, thanks, Oberon. Good to know that are a few who read and enjoy my work, at least.
bcyy Thu Jan 16 14:24:37 2025
OK, finished Potter's Field. I never knew that Aediles operated police forces!
TBH, it reads more like a video game intermission transcript than a standalone novel...
Is Cromwell the same as the one who led a revolution in our universe? :-)
Gavin Mon Jan 20 04:41:44 2025
Thanks for reading and commenting :)
Historically aediles and vigiles were indeed separate, but this is obviously an alternate history.
I don't know what a video game intermission transcript is, I was thinking of dnd.
When I saw posters for Shardlake up around the place I regretted giving that character the name of Cromwell, though to add insult to injury Shardlake has now been cancelled, and I can always say he's the Cromwell from Wolf Hall, or the Cromwell from Albert Pyun's The Sword and the Sorcerer.
bcyy Tue Jan 21 13:22:23 2025
Ah, DND. In that case, you captured the vibe really well!
Gavin Tue Jan 21 14:59:37 2025
Thank you that was my intention :)
Surprised you didn't comment on the plot twist, which is familiar to many people from a particular franchise but more relevant to the purpose here it was used in a book called Scaramouche. Though it was probably used by cavr people in between fighting cannibal tribes and beasts and going on quests for fire and that.
bcyy Thu Jan 23 14:24:56 2025
Which one?
SPOILER
The "I am your father" twist?
END SPOILER
I'm afraid I've watched so much Return of the Jedi that it doesn't register that much...
Gavin Thu Jan 23 16:48:40 2025
That's it, I hope I subverted it
bcyy Wed Jan 29 14:32:36 2025
Oh no you don't! You don't subvert the original trilogy, the original trilogy retroactively subverts YOU!
XD
Seriously though, you write much better than the script writers of The Acolyte. Not sure if that counts as a compliment, just stating a fact.
Gavin Thu Jan 30 17:02:01 2025
Nice to know I'm better than the creators of apparently the worst Star Wars media ever. I like to tell myself that I'm 17 times better of an author than the guy who invented Conan.
bcyy Fri Jan 31 13:58:37 2025
Again, just stating a fact - I don't mean to compare you to them or anything.
Which Conan? The Barbarian, or Case Closed? Howard or Aoyama?
Gavin Sat Feb 1 00:02:10 2025
Hah I'm only familiar with Bob Howard's Conan though I'm aware there's a manga one.
The comment about being 17 times better of a writer than Bob is too morbid to explain here. Day in the Life is the closest I'll ever come to writing about it.
Gaetano Thu Feb 13 18:52:47 2025
@ Gavin
You're referring to THE Robert E. Howard, the creator of the original Conan? If so, I can only hope your comment was tongue-in-cheek. (And did he ever go by "Bob"? That's rather familiar for a writer who died nearly a century ago).
Gavin Sat Feb 15 07:18:29 2025
I'm not explaining 17 times better it's too morbid. Bob is what they call him in the biopic film Whole Wide World, along with Wake in Fright these are the only two genuinely frightening films I've ever seen. Like (apparently) Jerry Cantrell with Rooster they came too close.
