Sorry to hear about the spam, Andy! |
Thanks. As you can (at the time of writing) see, I've cleared up some of it. |

Sorry to hear about the spam too.
Is it possible to have a forum on this website? Then we can have different sections for each thing. Also, it may stop spam. |
Maybe I was unnecessarily pessimistic before, the previous spammer seems to have gone quiet now (or else I am successfully filtering it out). I now have the means to more thoroughly delete messages (you may have noticed that the number of messages has decreased), so any recurrence of the situation where only a few messages were visible should only be temporary.
Construction and especially maintenance of a forum is something that I do not have time for. Furthermore, I suspect that keeping a forum spam-free is a far harder task than doing it for a simple guestbook. Certainly they all seem to need an army of moderators to keep them tidy. |

Does FF37 (Portal of Evil) give any info on lake Mlubz and the surrounding area? |
Haoie Mon Jul 7 01:52:14 2008
|
Yes, FF37 does give a good amount of detail into the lake itself and the surrounding area. There's even a colour map at the front of the book. FF37 is personally one of my favs. |

Nice, will the series have a common theme (Apart from the main character)?
Just finished 'Shadowcaster' by Stuart Lloyd, however, I doubt Stuart wants me leaking secrets, so I can smugly know heaps of stuff you don't and keep quiet (hee hee hee...) suffice to say it's very good, featuring...oops, sorry, I'd better not give anything away. Anyway, Ullyses, good luck with book 3! |

this is an awesome website, played half the games so far, diamond key is my favourite. i'd love to play deathtrap dungeon on here |
Thanks. The only way Deathtrap Dungeon will appear here is if Ian Livingstone gives permission and provides me with an electronic copy, so it's not very likely. |

Andy, I'm sorry to say this, but a flaw in the online-gamebook system has risen like the heads of Scylla from her rock before me. Occasionally, the options do not appear (You will not be allowed to proceed) Emotions which are the true flaw at the heart of humanity, that which prevents humanity from truly being gods, rise in me, when, having striven like Job trying to retain joy in an adventure, succeeding in doing what needed doing, and rightfully deserving a proper ending to an adventure, I am faced with the ending of- 'The demon rises, sword in hand. Fear grips your heart as you...' after which is nothing. I am impressed with the system, but very slightly irked. all I seek to know, not having the Lucifer-esque attitude of simply rebelling against those with whom I am a friend, cursing things I dislike, is, is there a way to progress when this occurs? |
Yes there is : either describe the bug or, better still, copy and paste the URL and email it to me and I will fix it. |

This sight is awesome! I haven't played one of these gamebooks in almost 25 years and it brought back a lot of memories. Great idea... hope to see more books on here! |

How come 'rebels of the Dark Chasms' and 'Midnight Deep' don't exist on the Downloads Page? |
The purpose of this site is to host the online game, the gamebook archive is really a secondary aspect that I have kind of drifted into, and I do not feel too much of a drive to make it more comprehensive. At the time I adapted Rebels Of The Dark Chasms and Midnight Deep, I may not even have had a downloads page, certainly I did not specifically ask permission from either author to host their gamebooks in the original format. I could ask now, and I'm sure they'd both be OK with it, but that would involve me doing something.
Although... I do sort of have Rebels Of The Dark Chasms on the site as it is zipped up with the rest of the old fightingfantasy.com website. |

What system do you use to post gamebooks online? |
Are you asking how I make online versions of the gamebooks, or how an author should go about getting their gamebook on the site? |
Kee Tue Aug 19 04:50:51 2008

How you make online versions of gamebooks....like, a program or something maybe? |
I convert the gamebook into a particular format - mostly a mixture of HTML and a simple language I made up for the purpose. I have written a programme which can process this information. Each time you do anything in one of the gamebooks, this programme runs on the web server and generates an HTML page. |

Well, I may as well say that I'm going through Phantoms of Fear, 1 of my personal favs. Anything with vast dreamscapes, the warping of reality, surrealistic events, and all that, really interests me. I don't believe any of the locally written stories feature that sort of content |

Just curious here, will there be anymore gamebooks being written? |

Yep, I'm writing one, a prequel to 'Beneath Nightmare Castle.' |

When playing the gamebooks on this site recently, I've occasionally been forced to abandon an adventure due to its sudden breaking down when I move from one reference to another - the screen, rather than doing its usual immediate change from one paragraph to the next, instead turns black and appears to be taking a long time to load the next page, which never appears. I have seen this happen recently on various computers, and am wondering whether anyone else has experienced this, or else some bizarre curse has been placed on me as an individual, rendering me completely unable to ever successfully complete one of these gamebooks. Whatever the case, I'm hoping there's some way it can be solved. I'm sure others will agree that it is very annoying to be playing one of these brilliant gamebooks and suddenly find that you have to repeat it from the beginning, knowing that your adventure in fact did not legitimately end. Other than that, although I think I signed the guestbook a while ago saying this, I would just like to mention how much I enjoy these online adventures. Although there are many I have not yet attempted, the ones I have I have found wonderfully atmospheric, complementing many different adventurous feels. I think two of my favourites have to be House of horror and Bodies in the Docks - the atmosphere of the latter I found particularly chilling when i successfully played it about a year ago. |

Have you tried refreshing the page when this happens, Vallaska? Alternatively, use your 'History' to find the bit just before the glitch happened and try it again.
I have so far failed to complete House of Horror, but I definitely agree with what you said about 'Bodies in the Docks'.
Oh, yeah, does anyone know where the sequel will be set? |
