The Fabled Lands series was really innovative. It's a terrible shame it was left, literally, half finished. Damn, I wanted to go to the underworld so bad, too.

I too, must ask about online gamebooks. While writing my 'Achaeid' I heard a lot about the greek themed 'Cretan Chronicles'. I have been unable to find much about them aside from very basic synopses. Are there any online versions of them in the fashion of Lone Wolf?

Hi Duffmeister. I have the first volume in .pdf which I downloaded from Underdogs last year. I can email it to you if you provide an address.

Greetings,
I invested one night to do auto-correction, adding hyperlinks and making a pdf where one can click those out of "Beggars of Blacksand".
I stored it at http://scribd.com/pauper to hopefully bring some people... to the wrong side! It will bring people to the link in the file, which is www.fightingfantasygamebooks.com
I got an email and mail you a copy, if it works.
If the author dislikes my self-initiative... my apologies, the passion of joyful gaming really took me for a moment. After all, I did your work cost-free.

I'm reading Bloodbones and am up to this bit, stuck. Could anyone help please?
SPOILER
Ok so I'm on 247 and he asks me for the password using the Method A=1 B=2 C=3. I was aware the password is Crossbones, right? Which would mean C=3 + B=2 = 5. I've tried many things like 23, 5, none of them seem to work could someone enlighten me a bit.

Widget,
SPOILER
that's the incorrect way to calculate. You take the numerical value of every letter, and add them together to the sum which is the paragraph you must turn to (btw, the answer is 127)

Nice to revisit this site, as I have always loved Fighting Fantasy. Eagerly awaiting my 25th anniversary edition of ''The Warlock of Firetop Mountain''!

Ulysses, you dont like eating "Brussels sprouts"? I thought you dont like eating ginger. :P

Love the site, brings back great memories of sitting in the garden as a kid reading Firetop Mountain :) Sadly though it has caused something of a midlife crisis and I have now bought books 1-30 on ebay :( Fantastic games here though, thanks for all your hard work and I was wondering if you ever considered releasing them all on disk for purchase?
The idea of an offline version of the site has been suggested before. However, as it's not a straightforward or interesting task, it won't happen. Also, the rise of broadband means that most people now should experience the same performance from the site itself, so not many people are likely to want it on a disc anyway.
Thanks for the kind words though, I'm glad you like the site.

Just a thought - as Mark J. Popp's site features solutions to the original books, why have solutions for the online versions as well? I'd be happy to map out the solution to Hellfire.
Thanks for the offer, but I don't intend to put solutions on the site. I'll continue to leave this kind of thing in the hands of the authors or anyone else who wants to respond to requests for help.

Hi Ulysses, what is the name of your next gamebook? :) I cant go to Museum with you.....too far. :P

it's been a while since i was last on here, not through lack of want, i had to reboot my entire computer and couldn't remember the web address!
i can't wait to catch up on the 18 months i missed, and thanks to gaetano who emailed me the solutions to his haunted house game many moons ago -still didn't get to complete it, but great game!
i did say the last time i was here that i'd give it a go, but sadly i shelved that idea...for now! i've recently been published as a child's fantasy writer and if i get the ok from the publishers and the take up on my debut novel is good, i'd love to give it another crack...although i'm still envious of one or two of the efforts here that really are as good as the originals!

I always loved the FF gamebooks as a pre-teen. Iy took me about three weeks to complete "Warlock Of Firetop Mountain," finding all the numbered keys and getting through the Mazo of Zagor. Anyway, this site is GiREAT, playing FF games online is lots of fun. BTW: Is there anyplace where you can play online versions of the actual books? I've always wanted to try that with Deathtrap Dungeon--the real game, not that sorry imitation they released for the PlayStation.
Thanks. I would be very surprised if the originals can be played online anywhere : this would be effectively giving them away for free and they are still trying to sell them.

You mentioned previously that you have had trouble with entering text as a Spoiler. Have you tried entering them manually? If you aren't familiar with HTML: Do it as follows except using square brackets instead of curly brackets: {S}This text is the spoiler text{/S}

Thankyou so much for doing this!

I think you should put up The Warlock of Firetop Mountain. I felt so good when I got to the end and had the option of becoming ruler.
END SPOILER
Thanks. I suspect your suggestion would result in legal action though.

Hi! I'm the new guy, I guess, so let me start by saying that I aboslutely love what you are doing here! This may have been asked before ,but there's way too many pages to go through them all, so here goes:
I am working on a FF-type gamebook that uses the same rules for magic as FF#2: The Citadel Of Chaos. My question is, could a book using that sort of system be converted to this format? I'd love it if it could be done.
Anyway, geat work guys, this site is awesome! I have so missed the FF books from my younger days.
A Citadel Of Chaos-style magic system may or may not be possible for the software to handle, it would depend on what else the gamebook contained. Extra attributes, objects that you can have more than one of, anything else that needs counting, would all have to be kept to a bare minimum. Being able to cast spells in the middle of combat (I can't remember if this was involved) would be very problematic.

Duffmeister,
Certain sections of The Achaeid are missing.
duffmeister Fri Jul 31 15:12:45 2009
Hi Kekataag
If you mean a few references around the forties have no content, then I understand. Basically I intentionally made a few more references than paragraphs for fear of running out of references with paragraphs still left to be written. Also, a few contained parts of book 2 (Originally, all three sections were planned as being together in one book) which I deleted. If you mean that by turning to certain paragraphs as instructed by the text, you find the paragraph doesn't exist/make sense then there may be a problem. If this is so, what are the paragraph numbers?
One glitch I'm aware of is that the adventure sheet appears to be absent on the downloadable version. Is this a glitch on my computer's part or on the text? If on the text, if it's easily possible, could it be sorted? If not then it doesn't matter much, since I rarely rate gamebooks on the quality of their adventure sheet, but just thought it was best to check.
Anyway, glad to hear you're reading the Achaeid, Kekataag! Any criticisms or judgements?
The DOCX version is what you sent me, so anyone with whatever software you need to read that format should presumably be able to see the adventure sheet (which I'm guessing was that strange jumble of characters at the start). It did not survive the conversion to Word format. I didn't try very hard to retain it admittedly : if you or anyone else can manage it then please feel free to send it in.

Are the FF books up here fan-made or the officials?
Because none of the ones I have are here.
Duck Fri Jul 31 18:49:42 2009
From what I can tell, I think Citadel of Chaos shouldn't be too difficult as far as your software is concerned. If I recall correctly, you definitely couldn't cast spells midcombat. On top of that, the only spells I remember affecting statistics were the ones that restored your stats, much like potions in other books. Most spells were just given as a standard option in the text. The only potential issues that I could see occuring are a) keeping track of which spells have been used as you could only use them once b) the question of whether people are choosing which spells to take freely and c) the fact that the number of spells you could take was decided by having an extra randomly rolled "Magic" stat.
