I have a copy of The Citadel of Chaos right here, and it says that your MAGIC attribute merely determines the amount of spells you can start with. These spells are then chosen at the start, with multiple 'copies' of spells allowed.
Therefore, an online version would simply allow you to select a number of spells from a list, which would then be carried around like objects and USEd at the appropriate time. As such it requires no adpation of the program at all.

A nice cosmetic change would be to have the spells in a separate dropdown box to items, but the functionality would be no different.
All true, but the issue is whether the gamebook will contain too many spells / attributes / multiple items / other counts in total. Also, you can't USE items in combat which is why I specifically asked about that, but apparently it doesn't happen with spells.

Duffmeister,

As far I could tell from my single playthrough, the missing sections didnt detract from gameplay. However, there are a few grammar mistakes and I found it strange that the text is centre aligned, which looks really wierd.

The writing was slightly dry and awkward, and (as I mentioned before) had quite a few mistakes. I enjoyed the battle with the Minotaur (inspired by the Cyclops fight in Seas of Blood, right?), but on an adventure already so short, it seemed to take up too many sections.

The main problem I am foreseeing is using the Creature Copy spell. For those who don't know, Creature Copy creates a duplicate of the creature you are fighting that fights in your stead (you must complete the battle if your copy is killed). I don't know if thr software could handle that type of alternative battle.
I think it might just be doable - In The Footsteps Of A Hero has something similar - so long as the creature isn't required to do anything special in the fight.

In general though I would recommend that you not worry about what the software can handle. Just write your gamebook the way you want without compromise, and accept that if I do end up adapting it for the site I will make any necessary changes or simplifications at that point.

OK, I will continue with what I had in mind. I've only just gotten started, though, so probably won't be seeing iy anytime too soon. Also, I am my own worst critic, so I"m probbly going yo do several revision before I'm ready to submit the game. It's a simple dungeon crawl, but there will be quite a few puzzles to solve along the way, and of course battles--it wouldn't be Fighting Fantasy without battles, would it? For the most t part, you won't be able to cast the spells until the text gives you that specific option.

Just so you know, at the moment luck seems to be replenishing itself after use for no apparent reason. (It's happening across the gamebooks).
Thanks. I've fixed it now.

Releasing Warlock, Citadel, and Deathtrap Dungeon:

Wow, how much more blood can they squeeze from that rock? It's encouraging to see new titles, however.

Is there any way that the admin of the site can convert it from a PDF file into a word document, or an online version? PDF files aren't accessible with JAWS, the screen reader I use.

Anyone else having problems accessing the official FF website?

Hi all, I've been keeping an interest in the site despite not contributing for a while. I wrote the framework for the 2nd shadowcaster book then immediatly wasn't happy with it. I've done a few short books and my entry to Windhammer (which is not FF). How are you all? I'm glad there's more FF stuff going on (A new book and fan magazine, wooo!) and that there are more books. Thanks everyone!

Hi, haven't been here in a while--problem is, my computer more or less died on me, and eventually I gave up the ghost and got a new one. Unfortunately, all my work on my FF-style gamebook was on the old computer so it all got wiped. Starting over from the beginning is daunting and I haven't actually done it yet. I might start a new project instead, without the added difficulty of the spells. I was thinking of maybe doing a paralell to Forest Of Doom. I just hope there won't be any copyright problems if I do.
I daresay there might be copyright problems if you tried to sell it, but there are plenty of gamebooks out there (including on this site) that reference existing works, and they don't seem to have drawn any legal action, so you would probably be OK.

Can't you just install the old hard drive as a slave on your new PC and get the data that way? Or do you mean it was the drive itself that failed?
It is sometimes possible to recover data even from a failed drive, there is plenty of free software about that will attempt this.

I don't intend to sell it...in fact I only wanted to have it playable from this site. So I guess there is no problem with the copyrights on Forest of Doom, then?

And as far as the hard drive goes, I tried using it with my new PC buy it doesn't even recognize the secondary drive. I think the hard drive is fried and unrecoverable. Most of my stuff was backed-up and got restored, but some of documents--including my gamebook--were lost. I'm not terribly upset about that, since I was not even 1/4 of the way finished with it.

In the meantime, can someone help me out with Bad Moon Rising? I'll tel you where I need help as soon I can figure out how the "spoiler" thing works.

Any help would be appreciated.

Believe it or not, one of the ways to at least have a chance of revovering data is to put the HD in the freezer for a while (double-bag scealed, to avoid moisture). Sounds crazy but a lot of people have said that it will make it work for a little while.

In "City of the Dead," section 15, the first option does not contain the section number to go to.

Gaetano - you have noticed a mistake I made. I should not have written 'turn to' there. If you want to return to the village with Ravan, you go to 94. If you want to explore the cave, you turn to 70. I have given the impression that there is a third option, but there is not.

NB: In the Windhammer competition entries, there is an error in 'The Achaeid: The Enriyes'. One reference syaing 'Turn to 120' should in fact say 'Turn to 100'.
