Just a quick note on the US Steve Jackson: he's the author of 'Scorpion Swamp', 'Demons of the Deep' and 'Robot Commando'. Thinking about it, these three gamebooks actually have similar layouts, ie. going to a particular section, the ability to retrace your steps, etc. Paths in Scorpion Swamp were based on a compass-based system - and perhaps the easiest adventure to map!
There are fan-designed maps on the Official site. I had a brief look at one for 'House of Hell' - it's great,

and some of the notes actually made me chuckle out of mutual sympathy...'Stairs to Lower Cellar - DON'T go that way!'
END SPOILER
Makes me want to play House of Hell all over again!

Hi,
I've just come from the FF Official Website (run by Jamie Fry) - some great news: Ian Livingstone has announced the latest gamebook title, 'Blood of the Zombies'! It should be released on android and kindle also.
Robert Douglas Wed Feb 22 04:04:30 2012
It's out in August, BTW.

What do you guys think is the rarest FF title? I say Revenge of the Vampire!
Robert Douglas Fri Mar 2 12:06:24 2012
'Siege of Sardath'.

Revenge of The Vampire? Ah, that brought back good memories. I remember there was an error in the book where it was impossible to stay at the first Inn on the road because the book made you spend all your money on a horse (if you chose to). Still, it was a great read, a really long engaging adventure. As for rarity I really can't say much though!

Shame about the House of Hell movie floundering. I've been on the Superteam website, finding nothing changed since 'video 2' (and that was some time ago). I was really looking forward to seeing the story and characters come to life. They were also going to do an interactive version... Hello...sounds familiar!
Recently purchased 'Blood of the Zombies' by Ian Livingstone. I haven't played it through yet - but, presentation-wise, it looks great. The title itself is embossed and the green spine makes a brief return (although I would have preferred the old font used on Puffin spines).
I've always struggled between which format I prefer (Puffin and Wizard). I'll always have a strong memory of collecting the entire series back in 80's/90's - but then I'm quite awed by the updated versions (in these, I've only bought the new titles such as Eye of the Dragon, Bloodbones, etc) going on to the slightly larger sized - including Stormslayer and Night of the Necromancer.
Recently, I've bought Island of the Lizard King and Armies of Death for my nephew who's a games fanatic. Not sure how he got on with them. It's feels a bit nostalgic, as if buying them for the first time, again - if that makes any sense!

Just finished 'Blood of the Zombies'. Don't highlight the spoiler below if you haven't played it!
SPOILER
The gamebook is set in modern-day Romania, so there's guns and grenades to be found in your quest to stop the zombie threat from spreading. It soon becomes apparent that your character (a college student) must not only escape but locate EVERY Zombie infesting Gingrich Yurr's castle to prevent the evil from spreading. It's important to go the right way so you don't miss any, and have certain items to hand at the right time.
END SPOILER
It's quite different to previous titles,
SPOILER
in the sense that often you'll be dealing with a large group of zombies. This means the combat is more basic: using two dice plus a bonus granted by a particular weapon determines how many you kill in the first round. Skill and Luck (along with their test rolls) have also been dropped from the system. Not sure whether I cared much for this over-simplification - but the gamebook is still quite entertaining with some unique encounters and a few interesting characters to meet along the way.
END SPOILER
The illustrations by Kevin Crossley are fantastic and lend the gamebook a gruesome atmosphere. Those zombies are truly terrifying to look at - not for the faint-hearted! And that one featured on the front cover...hideously great!
Overall, I'd say a worthy title to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of FF, if somewhat different in gameplay.

I would like to hear some news from/about commissioned authors FF's Puffin series: Robin Waterfield, Mark Smith and Jamie Thompson, Stephen Hand, amongst others. What are they doing now? Would they consider releasing unpublished adventures for online use here? Titannica stubs mention some of these adventures which never saw the light of day. Stephen Hand's 'Blood of the Mandrake' would have been set in the same world as 'Legend of the Shadow Warriors' and 'Moonrunner' - although the green-spine series ended at 59 thus ending hopes of new titles being published (at least until Eye of the Dragon).

Watched Steve Jackson guest-starring on University Challenge at 8.00 pm Monday evening. Representing Keele, he buzzed on one question, got it wrong....oh dear, never mind. Still, his team won.

@Andy and FF fans,
In an email I sent to Andy, part of it I should probably share with other fans: it concerned the various gamebooks which were produced. I'd also heard of Grailquest and Way of the Tiger - but it seems authors Dave Morris, Mark Smith and Jamie Thomson (all had written titles for FF) did write gamebooks of their own. I only discovered this by going on Amazon: I wanted to see if any copies of Grailquest were for sale. Titles such as 'Heart of Ice', 'Necklace of Skulls', 'Once Upon a Time in Arabia', and the 'Fabled Lands' franchise were republished in 2013! Prices are about £5.99. Has anybody played these books before? As for Grailquest by (JH) Herbie Brennan, these seem to be quite rare; the prices are something like £18-£20 (and some used first editions are going for near a £1000!!). A blog from Stuart Lloyd (October 13th 2013)appraised 'Heart of Ice', so it must be good.
Please let me know if you've played these adventures, and what you think to them!

@ Robert
The Virtual Reality series (which has now been republished as "Critical IF" are some of the my favorite gamebooks ever written. Each one of them (Down Among the Dead Men, Heart of Ice, Necklace of Skulls, and Once Upon a Time in Arabia) are worth purchasing. (Side note: Once upon a Time in Arabia was previously published under the title Twist of Fate
I can't praise them highly enough. LOVE those titles.

@ Gaetano,
Thanks for the response. I'll probably buy a couple through Amazon. FF's 'Keep of the Lich Lord' was written by Dave Morris and I quite enjoyed that title (although it isn't amongst my favourites). But 'Heart of Ice' sounds like a sci-fi dystopia that rather suits my tastes!
If I purchase them I'll let you know how I get on!

Quick question: Anyone know of any fan made Fighting Fantasy set in the Old World and more specifically, Gallantaria? Asking due to possible inclusion of material in a book.
Robert Douglas Fri Mar 4 00:44:39 2016
After consulting Titannica, discovered quite a few Jonathan Green titles are set in the Old World, besides those written by Stephen Hand, also as co-writer with Jim Bambra 'Dead of Night' and Keith Martin's 'Vault of the Vampire'. Sorcery! was also set in the Old World. However, the website doesn't mention any fan-written gamebooks within the 'Old World' section. Not sure if any fan-written titles were developed as prequels or sequels to any of the above publications. Perhaps somebody knows something...? I'll have another check.
Robert Douglas Fri Mar 4 01:25:23 2016
Just checked the list of 'Fan-written Fighting Fantasy Adventures'. There are eight titles I've found, listing them below: The Race From Earth End (Sorcery! 2.5) Legacy of the Vampire (Sequel) Groovy Mortals Honour and Glory Isle of the Cyclops Outsider! Realm of the Vampire (Sequel) Tales from the Bird Islands
