Ulysses Sat Mar 9 23:04:44 2013
@ Flow
The blaster you possess is a disposable blaster and doesn't have enough shots to use in a fire-fight, especially against a death-bot.
To defeat the death-bot, use the following procedure:
SPOILER
1. Talk to the Death-bot, 2. Ask to hug it, 3. Instead of going forward trick it into turning around, 4. Approach the Death-bot, 5. Use the Electronic Straight Jacket you should have got from the medi-bot on the Golden Stream. This will disable the robot.

You can, of course, also just fight the Death-Bot: the fight is winnable if you have a good Skill (eg from boosting it multiple times, as I described above, in Planet of the Spiders ).

@ Flow
You've made it to the final battle! The thing about that battle is:
SPOILER
The creature you face in the battle is determined by how many of the shape shifters you can kill. Since you are facing a spider-man, you must have killed a few somehow. It is possible to kill all of them except for the Merchant Prince of A13, meaning you face him alone in combat. The lethal items or conditions you need are: antique grenades, assistance from in-laws, assistance from a deadly doctor-bot, and spare shots on your disposable blaster.
END SPOILER
Regardless, it's still possible to just fight the battle and win. At least it's not a Death-o-saur.
Usually all weapons are available somewhere early on in the game. It is possible to obtain an energy whip in tGC near the start.

Thanks for all your help man

Flow: Regarding your comment about why you want an energy whip:
SPOILER
As I've said before, though, the basic self defence course (or whatever it's called) is simply better. It gives you a +1 initial-and-current skill, which applies whatever weapon you may be using at the time, and to skill tests as an added bonus. The advanced energy whip course simply gives you a +1 to attack strength (equivalent to +1 initial-and-current skill in combat) when, and only when, using an energy whip. Unless there's some 'hidden' feature, the self defence is simply better, and cheaper.

Arguth Wed May 28 13:04:15 2014
Hello I must say that of all the game books I played this one has got to be the hardest and if your other future ones are even harder then this is going to be a long haul. Congratulations because it's all pretty funny, but what I haven't picked up on is how to time travel. I've been to the ruined ship and I've exhausted all the dialogue options with the vending machine in the hold.
SPOILER
However although I've unlocked the dialogue option that gives me info. on passwords and fake crates I don't know how to access that secret research level that is supposed to come up as an option. The other machines have no answers when time travel is brought up. Can anyone save me for this one? Maybe there's something I missed, as if your supposed to time travel on the ship, then surely i won't need the blaster or the chip or the jacket just for the ship exploration.
END SPOILER
Other than time travel I think everything else should fall into place as I've got to the ending where pomplom dies.
Arguth Wed May 28 16:51:48 2014
I've finally figured it out.
SPOILER
Fight your way to the 1st vending machine. Ask it how it got here then ask it or sprouts or supplies. But even then your gonna need a command code for the time travel.

Halfway through the adventure, the "USE" button disappears from below my inventory. This makes doing things like

I have continued into the Golden Crate from the previous installments, if that makes any difference.
I've fixed it now. The USE button is meant to disappear at that point (to stop you switching weapons) but it now returns immediately after the DOG-BOT fight. Thanks for pointing this out.

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone's maintaining this anymore but I just wanted to say that it's actually impossible to get advanced blast rod/energy whip training because basic training apparently doesn't carry over from WWGB. In fact, it doesn't seem possible to even get basic blast rod training since you apparently need to have the energy whip with you for the option for energy whip training to show, and you don't get the blast rod until killing the space pirate guard. In addition, I'm unable to buy any of the weapons at the shop, but maybe they're just there for flavor? I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing, but I just wanted to let you know.
There is no basic training in Wrong Way Go Back. I'll look into the other things.
William Sun Nov 22 05:41:49 2020
Oh oops, I meant Planet of the Spiders. Thanks for correcting me! Also, I just realized that I didn't actually have the energy whip with me when I was checking if my training carried over, which means that either way I wouldn't have seen that option, so I'm not sure about that and will have to check.
William Mon Nov 23 22:53:52 2020
Okay, confirmed: You can get the advanced training if you have the energy whip with you, my mistake. The other things I said still stand, though.

In some ways, this actually felt somewhat easier than the previous installment. Granted, that was probably mostly due to getting used to the series' tricks than anything else. Some time was probably saved by reading the comments on Planet of the Spiders, which revealed a small, yet useful detail
SPOILER
That is, that the blaster is actually useful this time, and not a total waste and a sign you are doing things wrong and are destined to fail, like in the previous two.
END SPOILER
And the experience of Hellfire helped too, partly due to the same "you keep finding things on various paths that are really useful, but not useful enough vibe" (though the previous instalments also had that, it didn't feel remotely as extensive) and partly due to a (thankfully?) rarer element, that of
SPOILER
Violence and cruelty you can avoid in the moment being ultimately necessary to win. Granted, Hellfire also placed a lot more gravity on those slayings than this does when it comes to those two poor tribesmen, but then again, the series has an altogether different tone, and all that. Though, refs 32 and 76 compensate for that, with some standout writing for what are ultimately trap options, and not even particularly compelling ones.
END SPOILER
Altogether, though I would say that in a way, it actually feels like a better Hellfire (not to mention a substantial improvement over its own predecessor) in that you have to do some comparable things to win (including one parallel that is a bit of a spoiler, yet immediately obvious once you get there), but it feels far more satisfying here to get closer and closer to the winning path, simply because this does not have a final boss who effectively does much of the work of removing their own defences for you. Plus, the check that avoids you failing post-boss-battle in Planet of the Spiders and the pathway to neutralize it was undoubtedly funny, yet also truly arbitrary. Here, it actually feels pretty clever once you figure it out. Plus, while the antagonists here are less interesting than in the previous one, and the runnning gags continue to be very hit-and-miss, robot encounters (including that completely skippable one) more than offset this with their impeccable logic (or "logic").
Mechanical things.

I have avoided checking out the comments for this one and the previous one after resorting to it for the first, where I got stumped by certain items being at "Continue" prompts instead of getting used automatically. Here, though, I still discover something new that way. Namely:
SPOILER
That the electronic strait jacket is not just actually useful in the first place, but happens to be the best way to deal with the Death Bot?! I thought that tossing a smoke bomb and then relying on your luck was the best option available to you.
This is certainly NOT what I expected the strait jacket would be for. My first guess was that you would throw it at the burly man who is "owned by Harry" and beat the right combination to the safe out of him, because come on, that seemed like an obvious use! (And certainly more obvious than just having to restart, one way or another, until you stumble upon the right combination)
The other guess was that you could use it on the pirate leader on the path where you kill the shuttle guard and take his place, thus getting to stay alone with the leader for a while, and this was how you would get the daughter's location. Oh well.
