The third instalment of Ulysses Ai's Wrong Way Go Back series is ready for online play.
Fresh from battling giant, demi-human spiders from Arachnon, our hero, YOU, once more finds himself thrust into the bosom of adventure. Can you retrieve the Golden Crate from the evil clutches of the arch villain? Great obstacles stand in your way, such as: Space Pirates, Insane Computers, The Outlawed Concept of Time Travel, and at long last: a Death-bot. Succeed, and you will be able to have a girlfriend! Fail, and a host of interesting fates await you.
Fates such as: Beaten to death by a grumpy ape Having all your blood sucked out by a giant mosquito Torn apart by crocodiles Boiled alive in a vat of Brussels sprouts Sentenced to Death as a Trade Commodity Crushed by a grief-stricken employer And many, many more…!

Yay, another new adventure.

I hope everybody enjoys The Golden Crate
I just thought I should mention that the reason it is recommended to begin with WWGB and play through all the adventures is that there are bonuses and secret areas which can only be unlocked if you have played the previous adventures. Furthermore, weapon training bonuses are carried through the whole series.
I have stalled a bit on episode 6 thanks to beginning a Masters degree while still doing full-time work, but episodes 4 and 5 will likely appear here sooner rather than later (that is: this year rather than next year).

I think there's a bug with the new battle system in the Golden Crate. Entering any battle will get you killed, even if you roll a higher attack.
Ulysses Ai Fri Apr 17 21:58:53 2009
Haoie:
Can you provide more information? I've test-played it numerous times and didn't encounter any problems.
Haoie Fri Apr 17 23:37:51 2009
When I play it, every time I begin a battle, hmm. Well let's say it rolls all the dice automatically instead of clicking to fight each time. But even when my attack is higher than the enemy, I still end up losing 2HP every turn. They only lose HP when their attack is higher than mine. And this invariably kills me.
Haoie Fri Apr 17 23:46:56 2009
Update: This bug seems to be fixed today. Except that first battle with the space pirate at the station functions very differently to the later battles? Wonder why.

Haoie:
The rolling of the dice for all of the rounds is not a bug, but a feature which the webmaster recently introduced.
Not knowing the path you have taken through the gamebook, all I can say is to be aware that in this adventure weapons inflict differing amounts of damage, and you may also have bonuses that are affecting the results.
If there really is a problem that needs to be solved, you will need to paste the URL here, then the webmaster can check it out, and I can also satidfy my curiosity.
Haoie Sat Apr 18 06:31:05 2009
No, I think I got it. I might've been fighting without a weapon, hence, the -2 sign was for the lower attack? I've gotten a lot further now, but still not nearing completion.

Ulysses, I have a few questions about Golden Crate. As my computer seems to not be working with spoilers, I"ll try not to give anything away. How do you get into the logging house on Tree Street? Also, to complete the gamebook successfully, is it necessary to... pump the vending machine for all the info it provides, then to act upon it? I reached one of the endings, but the ending was tragic one for my true love. Do you have an email address where I can tell you everything that's going on with the game? Thanks.
Haoie Mon Apr 20 04:10:35 2009
I too have reached Jordan's ending. If the best ending really does require the vending machine's help, then I think it's too random an occurance to be useful. In other words, if my guess is correct, if you don't land alone and head in a certain direction, it automatically leads to a bad ending.
Ulysses Ai Mon Apr 20 05:00:58 2009
To complete the Golden Crate you do have to do some particular things. The sequence of events is logical rather than random, but does require you to find the relevant information to act upon. While you may regard this as 'unfair', it's all part of the challenge. Just explore the different options. Since the gamebook has only been up for a few days, I will not be giving out clues yet. It sounds like you are managing to successfully deliver the golden crate back to your employer, but are missing something else. That means you have overcome all challenges except the hardest one :) The Chapterhouse on Tree Lane can only be entered if you are playing tGC with a character that has previously completed Planet of the Spiders. I'm stuck at the same bad ending in The Golden Crate too. Any chance of it appearing on the Downloads page, as it seems unlikely I'll solve it without cheating?
It will. Eventually.

I'm sure the best ending has something to do with

Hi Ulysses Ai,
That was some good ending! "Oh yeah!"
Yap enjoyed The Golden Crate. Tougher than your previous 2 works but also more enjoyable!
Jordan Tue Apr 21 19:46:51 2009
Ulysses,
Oh yeah, indeed! I figured out what I was doing wrong, thanks to the previous spoiler. Excellent job once again. I look forward to the next installment!
Ulysses AI Wed Apr 22 01:08:45 2009
Congratulations (and grumbling) on completing it so quickly. Now that you have reached the successful ending, any feedback?

WWGB, POTS, TGC - A series where a geek can end up a winner. Though a loser, certain level of brainpower is still needed to clear these three quests...
Generally an enjoyable read with creative situations that tingles the funny bone.
The Golden Crate - For combat, the bots-animal-humans are sometimes very tough to fight, though the allowable selection of weapons are innovative and commendable!
Jordan Thu Apr 23 03:23:25 2009
Theapons in Golden Crate were indeed innovative and commendable. I prefer the commet to the energy whip, because you can deduct five SP even if you're a novice at using it. I hope the other installments feature this weapon, or something even better! Also, is there a posibility that... my new girl with the weird name will accompany me on other adventures? Great job, once again!
