I don't quite understand what you are asking, as you seem to be objecting to having to make choices.
The first time you play it doesn't matter what you choose; just read and enjoy. If it leads to disaster, next time make different choices. Then repeat this process until you reach the best ending or are bored with the story.
If you have already done this and are asking for a walkthrough, you can request one from the author, alternatively you can ask questions here about points in the story where you can't figure out what you are doing wrong.
Hope that helps.

basically, I'm wondering what to do cause every time I get to the ending, I get killed and I just have no clue when to take the escape pods do I take the pod with the rats or just go myself and is the data tablet in the captain's office important?
Ulysses Wed Apr 21 09:36:07 2010
Ryan:
The Golden Crate has multiple paths to completion, although some are much easier than others. Regarding when to take the escape pod, all options can lead to success, however to access the easiest path you need to:
SPOILER
go to the armony/medical bay side and collect items there, then take the escape pod right away.
END SPOILER
Captain's Data Tablet:
SPOILER
This item is of CRITICAL importance. Of course if you follow the above advice, you leave it behind on the ship while it crashes into the local sun... but don't worry about that at the start. You can find a way to get it later.

Ulysses: First off I just wanted to thank you for the WWGB series, it has provided me with some serious entertainment. I'm currently playing TGC and I had a quick question.
SPOILER
About the data tablet and the square of glass you can get, when you access them a bunch of letters come up. I'm assuming that these are some kind of code, and not a bunch of letters you through in to make the item look cooler? If this is the case can you give me any hints on decrypting these items?
END SPOILER
Again thanks alot for the series it's awesome.
Snobbie: You've probably gotten passed this part already, but here it goes:
SPOILER
I'm guessing that the demon you are talking about is the one you fight in the sowers during one of your visions. This battle is totally based on your psychic score so having a high one of those will help. I don't want to give anything away, but there are certain actions that you can take throughout the parts of the book before this battle to raze your psychic score by three points.
END SPOILER
Actually I just finished another playthrough of Outsider today, so if you need a hand with any part of it you can post here and I'll be happy to help you out.

C.K.:
Thanks for the compliment.
Your answer:
SPOILER
The letters which appear on the data tablet are in code, and the letters that appear in the data square are the key to the code. Therefore it is possible to manually decrypt the message from Big Bob; however, you don't need to do this as the message is automatically decrypted once you view the data square.

Ulysses: Thanks for your answer. I just have one more question:
SPOILER
I've gotten to a part of the adventure where it asks me to enter a code to open the golden crate. Can you give me any hints on finding this code?
END SPOILER
Thanks alot for your help.

SPOILER
To get where you are now, I believe you saw the crate opened by someone else, and so you should have seen the code used.

hi, could someone please tell me what to do for the golden crate? every time i either get killed by the king, or its that huge dino thing am I supposed to take the pod myself or with the rats? and what items will I need at the start?
Ulysses Sat Nov 6 04:05:40 2010
Hi Ryan, Glad your 'enjoying' the gamebook
Regarding the start:
SPOILER
Go and get weapons and medical supplies. Make sure you leave with: A disposable blaster, a small silver disc, and a computer chip. Then leave the ship at once by yourself. Once on the panet, make sure you find something really interesting there.
END SPOILER
Regarding the end:
SPOILER
The battle at the end can see you facing any one of a number of monsters. When the Merchant price of Projudia arrives, he has with him a number of fellow shapeshifters. If you have found or done certain things throughout the course of the gamebook, then you have the option to kill off some of the shapeshifters. The number you kill off detrermines which monster you fight. if you are facing the death-O-saur, it means you have not found any of the items or performed any of the acts which will allow you kill off the enemy shape-shifters. These items/actions are: Antique genades (2 to be found, each eliminating 3 shapeshifters), getting married to a frog-snail-cat woman (eliminates 3) or meeting a doctor-death-bot (eliminates 6). You won't be able to collect all of these, and in fact one lies on an incorrect path. If you kill off all 12 on the Merchant Prince of Projudia's men, then you face him alone in battle. Another note about the ending is that any path that leads to you returning the Crate without this battle occuring is the wrong path.
END SPOILER
Hope that helps

Apologies to everyone for my previous post where I wrote "your" instead of "you're"...I'm mortified.

okay am I correct in saying I should find the ship first? or do I go with the tribesman with the metal thing? I also found a safe with a folder with that number 16964 is this for the timetravel portion later?

Ryan:

Don't go with the tribesman. You won't get a chance to go with him after the ship and you don't need to. To find out if the number on the paper is for the time travel machine you should try it ...but yes.

Ulysses,

In the Golden Crate, I'm stuck. I took the escape pod myself, and found that weird ship with the frog people. From reding the text version, I gather there's some sort of time traveling I have to do. What am I supposed to be doing? this after I got pwned by a giant dinosaur

The time machine is located on a secret research level. To get the option to go there, you need to talk to the vending machine with the right order of topics to bring up the subject of time travel. In terms of when to go back in time, you have only one opportunity to do it, so once you have finished exploring the crashed ship, go back in time.
