Got it now. I was doing that every time, but made the wrong conversation choice while stowing away every time.Turns out

Loved the book, now onto the Hypertrout!

TGC is my favourite WWGB book :).

@ Ulysses,
If you write another gamebook, could you perhaps somehow fit in seafood sandwiches? I'd also like a bowl of sweetcorn. And, cherry pie with custard if you have any :)
Walker Long Thu Oct 18 12:21:49 2012
Well T. G. C. is really a challange. Tjhat Death Bot is unbelieveable. How am I supposed to fight a monster like that? I haven't tried smoke bombs yet but this is one tough assignment. I tried not to buy a knife but when I try to sneak through the door (after lessons) I get nailed every time. Ah, what fun! Walker
C-Star Thu Oct 18 17:18:09 2012
@Walker Long
You really remind me of me. I was posting the exact same stuff as you when I first started posting! The WWGB series is a challenge. I must have died about 25 times all throughout! Of course, the other guys helped me a lot.
And as for your problems with the Death Bot, you're not supposed to fight it. If you do, it is extremely unlikely that you will win. What you're supposed to do is
SPOILER
Use a certain item to defeat him without ever engaging in combat. You need to make the right choices to trick him into dropping his guard so you can use it.
END SPOILER
The item is, I.M.O., very random, so ask if you need help figuring it out. And, just to warn you, it actually gets harder later on :-( but that's what makes gamebooks so satisfying when you win them!
Walker Long Thu Oct 18 19:06:25 2012
I feel stupid but what does I.M.O. mean? W.
C-Star Thu Oct 18 19:36:16 2012
It means 'In My Opinion'. Good luck with the rest of the series by the way!

At: ulysses I thank you for the bookmark info. I do that all the time but it is called favorites. I didn't know it saves the page as it is. I thought it just saved the web site. It works great! Boy, what a time saver. Now I am in "Crate and keep getting to the airport and the kid. I die. I know I am missing something. How about a little hint? I haven't used the data pad or the other data thing or the goop in the jar. It must be there for somthing... I have had a beard and not and got a stat bump. I must be missing something. Am I exeting the building after I run from the bot-dogs? thanks a bunch.Walker
C-Star Tue Oct 23 18:01:58 2012
Hey, I posted all that info!! Anyway, I got stuck on this exact same part too. TGC requires you to take a strict path through the book. if you have the goop in the jar, you made the wrong choices on the ship in the beginning. You're supposed to be escaping by yourself. When you escape the ship, you should have a blaster, a strait jacket, and a microchip. You can get the data square and tablet again before reaching the city. Just find the crashed ship. You NEED the tablet & square to win.
Walker Long Wed Oct 24 11:02:03 2012
Thank you! I would never had started back that far. Walker
C-Star Wed Oct 24 15:17:52 2012
And, because you might need to know later, choose to stow away once you get the crate. You'll need to open it.
Walker Long Thu Oct 25 15:31:41 2012
Pat or Ulysses, I got to fight to death-bot died. I go to the crashed ship and tlk to both computers and leave. I don't pick-up the pad etc. I don't know where they can be. I am going in with Big Boband use the whip. Any ideas? I don't know where to stow away. Hint Please! Walker
Ulysses Fri Oct 26 01:42:07 2012
@Pat For all of the time penalties I tried to make them realistic. So to take 2 objects out of your pockets and try them in combination should only take 10 seconds at most.
The adding of numbers from the names of the objects is the only way to make this work in a text gamebook. I'm not sure what you are intending, but it would be nicer if you could just select the two objects without having to use the relatively clumsy method of adding numbers from the names.
Ulysses Fri Oct 26 01:56:46 2012
@Walker
The problem with your questions are that you are all over the place chronologically and your descriptions of your actions don't let us know if you have done critical tasks or not.
In every section of the game: Golden Stream, Jungle, Shipwreck, Town, Supertrain, Projudia, A13 Spaceport, Flight, A12 Spaceport, A12 Palace; there is something that needs to be done for success.
C-Star mentioned previously everything you need to do on the Golden Stream, namely:
SPOILER
Leave by yourself with a disposable blaster, an electronic strait jacket, and a microchip.
END SPOILER
In the jungle:
SPOILER
Find the crashed ship and go on board.
END SPOILER
In the shipwreck:
SPOILER
Make sure you explore thoroughly and don't leave by the same way you came in. If you do not do this you will not succeed at the game. Just to be clear: you enter the crashed ship by the door. Don't go back that way. Explore and find another way to leave. If you feel like you have searched everywhere, then you will probably have to restart that section and do things differently.
END SPOILER
Good luck.

Hi, Well I'll try to get this in order I get to the secret place and go back. I kill the Captain and land. I get the 3 color button control and get the stuff from the safe. I go up one level with the Lumberjacks. I get more training in whip. I get on the train and beat the woman then the guy. Now i am supposed to know about the trick compartment. But, how do I open it and not get the crate behind the fense? This is such a great game. Thanks for your help. Walker
C-Star Sun Oct 28 21:16:03 2012
I'm sorry, I have no idea what your problem is. And since my laptop is in repairs and the books don't work too well on this phone, I can't check. So i'll just guess.
SPOILER
You ARE supposed to impersonate the guard. You will eventually see someone open the crate. Remember the code for it. Then you have to steal the crate again (a smoke bomb can insta kill the dog bot.) Choose the right conversation choices to trick the death bot and use the strait jacket on it.
END SPOILER
Hope i actually guessed right.
Ulysses Mon Oct 29 04:58:45 2012
Regarding escaping with the Crate:
SPOILER
The best way to deal with the deathbot is as follows: In the conversation ask it if you can express your gratitude by giving it a hug. This lets you know that the deathbot doesn't like being touched. Then trick it into turning around and run forward. If you have the electronic straight jacket it will be used automatically and this will paralyse it. Then use the computer chip you should have got from the medical android at the start. You will then automatically take the Crate and leave. The deathbot will then protect you from dog-bots.
END SPOILER
C-Star Mon Oct 29 09:17:01 2012
Yeah I just didn't want to be TOO specific, solving that puzzle was one of the most satisfying parts of the game for me! And one more thing you may have problems with (I know I did).
SPOILER
Choose to stow away at the space port, and open the crate when asked if you want to. You will be given dialouge options. Choose the really stupid question that gives you no useful answers at all (hope it's obvious which one that is).
END SPOILER

Argh. I hate to ask for help, but I can't figure our The Golden Crate.
SPOILER
I've managed to get to the point where I can enter a code into the crate, but I can't work out what code to use. I'm guessing that the number I found in the safe of the wrecked ship has something to do with it, but I've tried entering it and it failed. I'd think it was something to do with the coded message for the captain, only as far as I can tell there's no way of getting both that and the blaster you need to open the safe without having to meet the space rats and stopping you exploring the jungle.
END SPOILER
Also, I think there may be either an error, or an example of Ulysses Ai's sense of humour, in the training you can recieve. The - advanced - energy whip course gives only a +1 attack strength bonus when using an energy whip, which is less than the cheaper basic defence course (+1 initial-and-current skill at all times, including non battle tests). Also, there's a minor exploit in Planet of the Spiders in that it's quite possible to
SPOILER
keep teleporting back in time to gain the benefits of the stat boosting liquid again and again, provided you don't boost your luck.

Correction: I feel stupid now. Reading back several pages of the guestbook, I see that I had in fact been told the solution, but just scanned that section rather than reading it properly, so hadn't noticed!
