Not really sure what happened here... interesting story but short lived. It rained, i lost an arm and then proceeded to lose my first ever fight? Not really sure how this is possible.

Very very good story. I actually felt accomplishment at beating the final boss, it was not to hard but when he hit, man I actually felt a little scared. Amazing story.
Haramir Thu Sep 22 13:50:44 2016
Hello folks. The text is well writen and the plot appears to be good. But gameplay is purely trial and error, with close to no interaction.
SCC Wed Sep 28 11:01:13 2016
Thanks for the kind words. Haramir, this adventure is written in a specific way. It quite deliberately has no interaction as it is an internal (both physically and mentally) and nightmarish trial for the protagonist. In essence, they are alone. I tried as much as possible to convey this in the text - unlike many of the original FF books there is no kindly old man/witch/farmer etc. along the way who can help.
There is also a logical way to progress, and I tried as much as possible to emulate Steve Jackson's Sorcery! in this respect.
SCC Fri Sep 30 02:26:16 2016
Thanks for the kind words. Haramir: the adventure quite deliberately has very little interaction as it is an internal struggle - a personal and desperate bid to prevent the erosion of one's psyche AND form BEFORE even beginning to contemplate revenge. Desperation is the flavour of this adventure.
There is also a logical way to progress. I tried to have the story echo Steve Jackson's Sorcery! in this regard.

Great game. Interesting gameplay. Good plot and tricks. The ending defeat of the overlord was slightly annoying to get right, but otherwise a very clever game. Loved the new take on golem voodoo. Grade: 99

Oh boy. I hate editing my own work! Remember that even at Uni I would try and avoid it. Still, it must be done.
SCC Sat Jul 28 13:42:15 2018
Indeed. I always thought it unfair that a reader could just skim through something that took someone so long to write.
Hagtar Sun Jul 29 11:21:53 2018
I don't get how testing my skill works. I presume I have to roll higher than something, but higher than what, exactly?
Hagtar Sun Jul 29 12:08:03 2018
I think I get the skill rolls now. If I roll *above* my skill, I lose the roll (and die, generally).
Much of this is down to lucky guesses, so I doubt anyone will win this in the first go. It became mostly a game of restarting, skimming through the correct choices, then taking a different choice in the end (or attempting the skill roll again). I would call that "fake difficulty", as it has nothing to do with my skill and everything to do with having played the game before.
Not bad, but too much fake difficulty.

What a great concept! Tey is an excellent villain, and I love the atmosphere of every entry! The progression is certainly rather linear, but I suppose it would have been difficult to do it any other way. I do wish your run didn't effectively hinge on one of those two checks - either the Skill check when
SPOILER
the Formorian Giant spots the fireplace
END SPOILER
or the Luck check if
SPOILER
you don't go to the cottage and have to hide from the patrol without the aid of the Invisibility Potion.
END SPOILER
Now, I must mention there are more than a few typos. I see that the last post from the creator was to say he would like to correct them...but that was five years ago. I hope this comment will finally get them fixed.
46: "must be a huge underground complex. Plus "and when you are lower your arm are surprised to see" - what is that structure?
7: "you may be able to jump for the rock". On the other hand, "might be able to be jumped" reads rather dubiously.
11: "you are about to discard it".
16: "noting how much easier it is".
73: "just as the soldiers re (?) the main room."
10: "It would be near impossible".
98: "Dejected, you re (?) the fireplace"??? And "as both will beare effectively losing the last of your ground cover. The sides of the valley are also narrow"
51: "Running will only alert them to your presence, but there might be a chance"
99: "And re (?) the valley floor".
19: Is it Daren Tey or Dalen Tey?
60: "Will now work to your benefit."
93: "A third woldier".
61: "slash at (?) your throat"?
Observations:
Shouldn't losing a clay arm to rain also lower your skill, or at least hit your fighting ability in combat alone?
SPOILER
Using acid, vapours and the Blade of Disruption does not remove them from your inventory.
END SPOILER
I also have no idea if
SPOILER
carrying a potion for use later is impossible
END SPOILER
in 12 is meant to prevent you from bringing
SPOILER
Potion of Fortune
END SPOILER
into the battles with
SPOILER
The Overlords
END SPOILER
but I'm glad it doesn't work, then, because the battle is really arbitrary without it. Not to mention that while unlikely, I found out it actually is possible to
SPOILER
lose to Orc Chamption without the potion if the rolls go really well for it.
END SPOILER
And further, if
SPOILER
we destroy the Earth Overlord first, even before the fight begins
END SPOILER
how come
SPOILER
they still get to use that overpowered Gravity Storm during the fight?
END SPOILER
I would have thought that
SPOILER
Gravity would be Earth, and Meteor would be Air, and not apparently the other way around?
END SPOILER
Some suggestions:
Can we have at least the description of a
SPOILER
demise by electrical current in 55
END SPOILER
differ a bit if you have the
SPOILER
Ring of Fire Protection
END SPOILER
? Even if you just have it destroyed by the current almost immediately, it's still better than ignoring it.
I don't quite understand why
SPOILER
the giant was so spooked by the fireplace being lit. The two orcs were coming back from checking traps, laden with food. Why wouldn't he expect them to light a fire? If anything, would the lack of one be more suspicious?
END SPOILER
Instead, I think it would be nice if
SPOILER
you could avoid the skill check by dragging the two bodies out of sight, but this stains your form with gore and makes you lose more sanity.
END SPOILER
In fact, perhaps
SPOILER
winning with low sanity could resultin worse endings.
END SPOILER
Granted, perhaps this already exists, and I just haven't discovered it yet.
I wonder if perhaps there could be
SPOILER
an ending where you don't approach Tey so closely for whatever reason, and so he doesn't get the chance to slash at you, but also manages to escape and then keeps plotting against you, or something, leading to a worse ending.
END SPOILER
I've fixed these bugs (as opposed to the observations/suggestions), thanks for pointing them out. I've gone with Dalen rather than Daren as it involves the fewest changes.
Simon did provide an updated version last year, and it's on the downloads page, but I didn't go through it to work out what had changed so the online version is based on the text from 2012.

As I have been getting more and more (re)acquianted with Titan's canon, I began to wonder how well the stories I have already seen on here fit.
Upon closer look, I discovered that not only does the ref 109, which makes you fight two ettins as part of a group fight, arrive with zero context (you are literally told nothing about the creatures outside of their stats), but it seems like ettins are one of the seemingly few fantasy/folklore creatures to exist in D & D but not in Titan's canon to date. There's also the Formorian Giant (?)
At the same time, it's also technically possible this story isn't actually set on Titan in the first place, but rather just in Forgotten Realms or the like? The only thing which might place it in Titan seem to be references to Atlantis (when you get the steel body), but that seems to be in every fantasy setting anyway.
And once again:
SPOILER
15 "He stands at the end of a long red, carpet" - isn't the comma meant to be between long and red, not red and carpet?
