Hmmm. Not impressed with Hellfire. The only way to complete it is to collect random objects and to have a high Skill. Oh and don't forget your Potion of Skill. Why the Potion of Skill? Coz come the end there's 3 big bosses to beat, all with double figure Skill (and yes I did use the Chaos Cross), meanwhile you have just fought a min 4 round battle where you lose a Skill each round. Without a Potion of Skill, you go into these battles at maximum Skill 9. You really need the dice to go well. I'd always thought that the FF books were doable on even the lowest stats. Hard maybe, but doable. Hellfire is not worth attempting unless your Luck and Skill are both above 9. |

Anyway, writing one of these things is more difficult than you might think. Further more, very few FF books were 'doable' on anything less than a skill 10, or maybe even an 11. A lot of Hellfire isn't as tough as you might think because there are secret ways past creatures or ways to weaken them or power-up yourself. If you ever look at the text version you might know what I mean. Anyway, thanks for playing my book, which I know readily admit was too tough for most :( |

As you say, although the FF books would contain a paragraph stating that they could be completed with a low SKILL, that was quite clearly a lie. Similarly, of the gamebooks on this site, I would say that realistically only House Of Horror can be completed with a SKILL of 7.
It seems to me that this is a fundamental weakness of the rules of FF. It is always going to be very difficult for any author to allow for a player with a SKILL of 7 to succeed without making the fights too easy for a player with a SKILL of 12. Personally I don't consider Hellfire to be "too" difficult. There are of course easier gamebooks on this site, but Hellfire is there for those who like a tougher challenge. |

Please remind me to proof read a post before I send it! One last thing. I now realise, years after I wrote them, that the final door and the Trinitour himself involve too much 'trial and error'. Ah well, I think I mostly got rid of things like that in the sequel (only to have 1 or 2 people decribe the text version as "A bit too easy.")! Man, you just can't win with some people! |

Dear FFP team there is something that has been puzzling me about riders of the storm is there some where else that you can use the trinator because you have to use to use it three times so why have the option of using it four times? Is this to allow error or is there somewhere else where you can use th trinator? ??? P.S Just out of interest where do you find the wish ring? P.P.S Also I loved House of horror its fairly short but amazing I particulaly loved the stringamano bit but mustadmit outsider still my favorite. P.P.P.S Any chance off any more books? Any whatsoever... PLEASE!!! |

Thank you for this site! It's a productivity-killer but hey, we all need one of those, right? I'd actually never heard of Fighting Fantasy books before this - they're more of a British thing, right? - but I did grow up on text adventures and Choose Your Own Adventures, with a few random books that forfeited having d6s for flipping numbers in the corner. In fact, I think it was looking for the title of that series - it was something where you were a barbarian saving your girlfriend, absolute trash, but fun nevertheless - that I came upon your site. I just finished 'The Trial of Allibor's Tomb', after prolific notes and deaths (I never said I was good at these things) and now I'm more psyched than ever to try one of the harder ones. (I found that mapping some of these is a bit of trial and error, though, especially the 'House...' one. I think I'm going to move onto mini-post-it notes soon.) |
