I can't remember. What I recall is that there are 8 offices in total, and originally there was a special item in each office. With the altered version I prepared for the online adaption, this was reduced to 3 items. There are still 8 offices, but now each item can be found in two of the offices, with the remaining 2 offices being empty. So just use a bookmark and search all of the offices. You have a 1 in 4 chance of finding it.
Wow, 8 items huh? Did they all have some use? Or did you pick for the online version the 3 that had the most usefulness. Just curious since I don't really feel like digging through the text version to find out what they all are.
I can't remember exactly. The others were duplicates of other items such as rings of SKILL, LUCK and STAMINA, or one could have been a box of potions. There was nothing new and exciting cut out.
War Of Deities, a full length gamebook by Stuart Lloyd, can now be found on the downloads page. At the same time I've put up Ulysses Ai's Wrong Way Go Back.
I just wanted to thank all of you for these great stories you have compiled here. Im reading house of horrors and think its wonderful. I have been a fan of fighting fantasy way back in the 80s and to my suprise found this website. I cant wait to read all of your stories! Thanks again!
By the way,how about some pictures to add to them. I always thought they were great drawings in the originals. Surely there are some talented artists out there that can help out you guys? Well I just died, gotta go back to the start. (I knew I shouldnt have just followed the hallway all the way.)
I completely agree, and I would love for the site to have more pictures. At first I tried to find illustrations from the original gamebooks to match the text, but this is a tiresome process and by the time I got to House Of Horror I gave up on it. Also, although I realise the site isn't squeaky-clean in this respect as it stands, I don't really like to use artwork without permission (Martin McKenna is the only one I have been able to even contact, let alone ask if I can use their work).
But, yes, anyone willing and able to provide some decent illustrations for the gamebooks should certainly get in touch.
Are there anymore sites with online games such as these, or like these that anyone knows of? I've found several sites, but most of them require paper and pencil, which I don't use because I'm blind. Any suggestions?
These are my suggestions (they are all on the links page anyway). I don't know how accessible they are though :
Does anybody else have trouble viewing the amatuer FF books on the www.fightingfantasygamebooks.com website? My browser tells me I need a plugin, but can't identify which one.
Also, for those reading the text version of War of Deities; at the entrance to the dungeons (357) you are directed to turn to 147, which is a room full of caged birds. After examining the other references, I believe you are supposed to be directed to 98, which has you walking along a tunnel, and then opening a door, whereupon you are diected once more to 147. I believe 98 is the proper starting reference since it contains the words: Sword in hand, you open it, prepared to face the dangers of the dungeon.
I know some decent artists that can do these books some justice. Ive talked to two of them and they agreed to go on this site and read them through to get some ideas. They have other jobs now but the work I have seen them do are very quite good. One even used to read fighting fantasy when he was a kid! He was quite surpised about this being online. Its funny that Im thirty-five years old and havent even thought of these books in over twenty years. Now I feel like Im 15.This is great stuff and I hope I can help you out with some artwork. I will send you some of their work and you can decide if their good enough. If they are maybe you can have a poll with the other fans and vote for which book you would liked to have done? But Im getting ahead of myself. Back to reading your books! Its so much harder when you cant cheat.(And much more fun.)
Thanks very much - I look forward to seeing this. I should mention that the art budget of this site is zero, but they would be credited and get a link to their site if they have one.
As a general point, my view about the standard required is that since the standard of the writing is at least on a par with the original gamebooks, the artwork ought to be on a similar level too. But it doesn't need to be anything like as detailed.
Thank you for making this site. I love these books, I have 7 of them, except that mine are portuguese books. They were translated to portugues. Keep making these books, please. Over 18 millions copies were sold, you can't stop, we need more of these books.
Hi everyone - just like to say thanks for the site - finally finished House of Horror! Thanks to everyone who has put work into the site and the games.
This site is GREAT! Unfortunally I've discorverd how to cheat.
I'm writing my own ametur story. Almost finished. Would I be able to post it on this website? It's not very good.
By all means send it to me when it's finished. If, as you suggest, it is not very good there will not be an online version, but I will happily put it on the downloads page.
Ulysses Ai? Any Ideas on how to find a, that is to get to a spot in a game without going all the way back to the start? I mean if you aren't Killed. Reference #? Also I've started working on a F.F. adventure. Will keep in touch, playing Hellfire, Outsider!, and House of Horror (a title which someone beat me too!). The site looks great! I've got some pics, One of a Creature of Havoc fr. Book 24 & an ancient Goblin Warrior. The Problem- I don't have the originals & I'm still learning to use the computer. All for now.
Hey Gang! Just Checking in. Live Action?!. What's with the Calacorns in Hellfire? Are they Blessed or something? I'd hit them with no results. Logaan the trickster? Perhaps!? Death is a drag! My character was born a Warrior/Priest & i thought that maybe the Creatures react to his Magic. Fear? His powers (fr. dungeoneer have caused some problems). He currently resides in Port Blacksand where He is studying to be a priest of Urgulla (Decay). Push, Dodge & Repel are a few of his other powers. Also Bless, Unarmed Combat. The last book I played was the last Sorcery! In which I Was Defeated by the Archmage. My Character is in line for his Father's throne, but he rather go on adventures. He's " conquered " his own lands ,and doesn't really care about taking his Father's place. He wants his own Kingdom. He currently resides in Blacksand in the Garden District.
