Thanks for the endless descriptions of torture, I think the writer enjoyed it a little bit too much. Also this must be the only gamebook where your character has no agency or heroism, and just hangs around being tortured until they are rescued by a deus ex machina! In short I did not like it! |

Finally went back & beat this one properly. Have mixed feelings about the "one true path" concept but I think this somewhat works. Need more than a little good luck to make it through too. Still enjoyed it & wish for a sequel. Oh well. 90/100. |

Working my way through the site again. Apparently didn't comment on this last time, probably because I just switched to doing the full version. This one works pretty OK for a small standalone. Don't have much to say that hasn't been said already. It is what it is and the extra challenges add a bit, which is nice. 80/100. |

Been making my way back through everything on this site. Got hinted that there was a second (harder) ending I hadn't done on this one & managed to find it. Yay. Still really like how good this story is despite not lacking adventure-ness. Great lead for another adventure, even if it never got used. Props. |

Been a while since I was on this site but wanted to come back & do some stuff again. Apparently I either never did this one or I forgot to comment after. Anyway, agree somewhat it's nice to just have to rely on skill & not dice for this. I might've gotten extremely lucky as I did this in one shot without my usual map/chart making. Seems like it's good overall though, with nice content & choices. Lower rating only because I'm not sure of everything in it. 80/100. |

@Tammy - Merry Christmas.
My new year's resolution is to see more people in person. We've had 2 years of lockdowns and one of my family members died in 2022. Life's too short.
@Ulysses - I'm up for that. It can pay for hosting costs etc. |

I'd like to float a topic for discussion:
This site should have a Patreon to allow those who enjoy reading and writing gamebooks here to support it.
While some content creators on Patreon have different tiers with exclusive content, I am imaginging instead a single "Support this Site" tier with a minimum of 1 gold coin (or other relavant currency).
Any funds would go to maintaining the site and incentivising its continued existence. This site would still function the same way, and writers (such as myself) would still be using this site as a free publishing platform with no expectation of return.
While the webmaster has expressed to me in the past that he maintains this site as a hobby and is motivated by interest in gamebooks, I think what I am proposing here is reasonable as it does not require any additional effort and is unlikely to end up funding the purchase of a private island.
Thoughts? |
In principle I don't have an issue with this, but I'm not convinced it would accomplish anything. It's probably what I said before on the subject, but I haven't attempted to raise money, either by advertising or by soliciting donations, because I'm pretty sure it would only ever generate a small fraction of the costs, while potentially antagonising anyone who has contributed creatively on the understanding that the site is non-commercial. If necessary, I could probably save more by shopping around different hosting services, but there is no pressing need, and until there is I'll just continue to think of the costs as my donation to the internet, from which I get plenty of free entertainment.
Of course if I thought I could get a private island out of it I'd already have done it. |
